Troop Committee

The Troop Committee consists of the Chaplain, Captain, 1st Lieutenant (“1LT”), the 2nd Lieutenant (“2LT”) Junior and Senior Cadet Commanders, the 2LT Religious Coordinator and the 2LT Campout / Activities Coordinator. The Captain is the leader of the troop. The 1LT takes the place of the Captain in his absence. The 2LT Commanders and Coordinators are executive roles in the troop. At the annual meeting, Troop
Committee members are elected by the adult members of the troop to one-year terms.

The Troop Committee coordinates the planning and scheduling of troop activities, determines the composition of patrols (which boys are assigned to which patrol), sets membership dues, and coordinates the election of cadets to leadership positions. The Captain sets the agenda for all member meetings.

Junior Cadet Program Responsibilities

Fathers are responsible for working with their sons to complete the requirements of the Junior Cadet program and tracking their progress. New cadets that enter a Junior Patrol at a level higher than Saint Matthew (due to age and grade) must complete the mandatory requirements for each Patrol that he passed. Fathers choose the optional components that their sons complete at each level and attest to their sons’
completion of the program on behalf of the troop.

Attendance

Attendance at troop activities is not mandatory, however cadets may only attend activities if their father is also present for the full duration of the cadet’s participation in the activity. Another person may not be sent as a substitute. Non-members may not attend troop activities without prior approval of the Captain, and in all cases are not permitted to stay overnight at troop campouts. Members may not bring RVs to troop campouts.

Alcohol and Tobacco Use

Using tobacco products, vaping devices or e-cigarettes is prohibited at all troop campouts and events. Consumption of alcohol is prohibited at troop campouts and is generally not allowed at troop activities. The Captain at his sole discretion may permit alcohol at certain events under specific conditions.

Tenting

While fathers are required to tent with their sons, they are strictly prohibited from tenting with a child other than their own. Senior cadets may tent with other senior cadets with their father’s approval.

Three Person Rule

An adult can never be left alone with a boy not of his own at any time during an activity or campout. If there is one boy, there must be two adults. The exception is when the adult and boy are father/male legal guardian and son; grandfathers – if they are members – are not allowed this exception.

Infractions Against Catholic Decency

These include but are not limited to:

  • Cursing
  • Dirty jokes
  • Blasphemy
  • Stealing
  • Lying
  • Cheating
  • Acts of violence or vandalism
  • Disrespecting leaders

If any member commits an infraction against Catholic decency, or otherwise engages in activity contrary to the moral values of the Catholic Church and the Troops of Saint George, they will be given one verbal warning. On the second occurrence, they will be expelled from the troop. If the infraction is deemed extreme, the Chaplain or Captain may dismiss the member immediately.

Sexual Molestation or Harassment

If any person is involved in the sexual molestation, harassment (including assault or battery) or other impropriety toward another person in the troop, law enforcement will be notified immediately. In addition to the parents of any youth involved, the Diocese of Sacramento, the Chaplain, Captain, Lieutenants, and the Troops of St. George Headquarters will also be notified.
